I proudly made this image on my Hasselblad 500cm using Kodak Portra 400 film. Switching between the fast-paced nature of digital photography, especially in sports, and film is a change of pace that I gladly welcome. It helps me to stay grounded and to slow things down, regardless of my camera of choice for a particular shot.

I first met José Jiménez in Mexico City during the 2015 FIBA Americas tournament where we shared the sidelines. I was blown away when I saw José easily adjust the annoying white balance issue from the arena using the color balance adjustment in Photoshop and his tricks with the history brush. It may sound very simple—indeed, José made it look that way—but different lighting setups in arenas around the world present different challenges and poor or proper white balance is the kind of thing that separates the good from the great. Anyway, watch the video to learn some of José’s magical time-saving tips on making your photos standout quickly and proficiently.

José has garnered a bevy of accolades for his work behind the lens and I was excited that he was so generous to give me some time for this conversation on Glad You Asked, where legendary footwear designer and so much more, Jeff Henderson and I trade tips, tricks, and banter about our respective passions. This episode takes place in Argentina is packed with gems for entrepreneurs, photographers, editors, and anyone who can appreciate a great story as I sit down with señor Jiménez.
