They don’t call it Hoops in the Sun for nothing. It’s hot out there. And there are few spots of shade to seek refuge from the sun’s glare. But, that doesn’t stop NYC’s elite ball players from competing for one of the most coveted summer league’s in the Mecca of hoops. Orchard Beach in the Bronx, NY is a necessary stop during my annual pilgrimage to each of the top summer leagues when I spent fathers day at the house that the late Joe “Pops” Cruz built and that his two sons, Joe Jr. and Randy, continue to carry on the legacy as the league’s co-CEOs.
